Kayak in Douro River and It’s Tributaries
€3,290.00
In the 20th century, with the construction of 5 dams in Portuguese territory, it allowed safe navigation
between Porto and Barca d`Alba.
On our Kayak expedition, we will explore Douro River and two tributaries: the Tua River and the Tâmega
River.
Both tributaries have economic and historical interests as well as an incredible and varied landscape.
For 9 days we will explore hidden places!
Come with us!
1º day – “Welcome day”
Day to rest from the plane or car trip and meet the team.
Dinner in a typical restaurant.
2º day – “Visit Porto – World Heritage City”
Dinner in a typical restaurant with a wonderful view to the ribeira do Porto World heritage , classified by UNESCO.
Interesting places to visit:
- – Clérigos Tower
- – Bolsa Palace
- – Cristal Palace – gardens
- – Botânico garden
- – São Bento Train Stations
You will also be given information about the expedition.
3º day – “On the way to the mountains”
We will go to the mountains by train, on a beautiful train journey through the Douro Valley. We will visit and have lunch in a typical village in the northeast of Portugal.
4º day – “Douro – Exploring the most eastern route”
Here the Douro River separates the two countries of the Iberian Peninsula Portugal and Spain. The influence of man did not reach here, allowing nature to express itself.
5º day – “The rocky cliffs of the Douro”
The Douro valley is still international, separating the 2 Iberian countries.
The rocky cliffs allow sounds to echo.
Here the observation of wildlife is possible (species of birds…)
6º day – “Tua, the river that lost the train line – A tributary of the Douro”
Until 2008 the river Tua could be contemplated in a train trip. The line was closed due to economic reasons and accidents.
Now, we can explore this beautiful valley by kayak and get to unreachable places and hidden places…
7º day – “Paddling where the port wine is produced”
Today we will discover the famous Port wine estates. The entire landscape has been sculpted by man. The kayak trip through the valley is unforgettable, with mountains full of vineyards.
8º day – “Paddling to Caldas de Aregos – Thermal village”
The landscape in the Douro valley will change. The vineyards will be replaced by forests and small villages.
At the end of the stage, you will get to know a small thermal village.
9º day – “Exploring the green valley of the Tâmega river – A tributary of the Douro”
The Tâmega is more important historically than economically. It has always served as an invasion route for foreign armies. The calm waters of the river Tâmega will take us to the end of our expedition.
